Canon
Canon provides a low speed scanner that will run at either 25 checks per minute (CR25) or 55 checks per minute (CR55). This scanner is mainly used at low volume branch capture sites and higher volume merchant capture sites. It has an auto-feeder that holds up to about 50 checks and includes double-feed detection. It also has single-line inkjet capability.
The CR180 scanner runs at approximately 180 checks per minute and can output items to two separate pockets based on software configuration. It has an auto-feeder that can hold about 100 checks. It also include double-feed detection as well as pocket-full sensors.
NCR
The 7780 and iTran series of check scanners from NCR support a variety of speeds and options. This type of scanner is used in a central operations center. This was mostly used for power-encode operations before cash letters were able to be electronically transmitted.
RDM
The RDM EC7000i scanner is primarily used for low volume merchant capture installations. It supports franking electronically deposited items to prevent re-deposit.
Burroughs Payment Systems
The NDPXXX and Quantum series check transports have a wide variety of speeds from 60dpm to 1800dpm. Each model has a variety of options for pockets, inkjet, double-detect, etc. These transports are used at a central operations facility for capture of paper items. This need has diminished with the advent of electronic cash letters and branch capture.
The SmartSource scanner runs at 30 to 120 checks per minute and allows for the speed to be upgraded after deployment. Its belt-driven track provides for superb paper handling and includes double-feed detection. It supports multi-line inkjet and can come in single or dual pockets.
The latest addition the Burroughs product line, the SmartSource Micro is aimed at low-volume merchant capture sites. It is the most compact scanner available and doesn't event require a separate power supply. It reads MICR optically and has the ability to de-skew images as they are captured.
